Conceiving with PCOS

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, or PCOS is a leading cause of infertility among women. The over production of insulin is a major reason why PCOS occurs. This problem induces in women a response whereby the body begins to produce male hormones and androgens to balance the oversupply of insulin. This induces different response and effects in a woman’s body, and one such effect can be infertility which makes getting pregnant with PCOS a difficulty.

There are also other effects which are a result of PCOS. Every woman will respond to PCOS in a different manner, and therefore the symptoms in each woman are not identical. There are some symptoms which are commonly experienced by PCOS sufferers, and these include the development of type two diabetes, weight gain or obesity, pain in the pelvis, acne and an increase in hair on the chest back or face as well as thinning head hair. For some women, all this symptoms amount to nothing when compared to infertility.

The Best Time to Conceive

Knowing the best time to conceive is about knowing when the fertile time in a woman’s cycle is, but this is a somewhat complex thing to understand. To begin with the life of an egg when released is a maximum of 24 hours and given that there may be two eggs released in the twenty four hours of ovulation, this leaves only around two days which are fertile. If we factor in the man’s part, then his sperm can live for about five days maximum, so combined there is only around a one week window of fertility each month. For the best indicator of a woman’s fertile time one needs to check the quality of cervical fluid – when it is an eggwhite consistency this is the fertile period, but it may only be there for a couple of days.

There are lots of women who think they conceived a child during a period, despite this being a next to impossible thing to do. There are occasions when one may become pregnant from intercourse during the end of her period, but this is quite rare. This is only really possible when the woman has a very short cycle, and the sperm survive long enough to be present at ovulation. The more common case is when a woman mistakes blood spotting during ovulation as a period and get pregnant at this time. This is a reminder of how important it is to really know and understand you cycle and the functioning of your body.

Trying to Get Pregnant After a Miscarriage

The thought of getting pregnant after miscarriage can be quite daunting, as many women are afraid of a second miscarriage. Medically referred to as ’spontaneous abortion’ a miscarriage is the loss of a pregnancy before about twenty weeks growth. It is believed (according to the American Society of Reproductive Medicine) that as many as twenty five percent of known pregnancies will miscarry. This rate may be even higher as many women will miscarry before they are even aware of the pregnancy.

It is not totally understood why women miscarry. If miscarriage occurs in the first 12 weeks of a pregnancy, it is generally thought to be the result of a random instance of chromosomal abnormalities which prevent the foetus from properly developing.

Of course the state of the mother’s health also plays a part. Medical conditions like un-tended diabetes or structural problems in the woman’s uterus which result in an improper egg implantation can affect a miscarriage, as can a number of autoimmune conditions in the mother. A woman’s (and prior to conception, a man’s too) lifestyle choices can also affect the likelihood of miscarriage – things like drug abuse or smoking can play their part. Aside from this, there are also miscarriages which occur simply because the egg was improperly implanted into the lining of the uterus – the good news is that this can be all but eradicated by having intercourse at the right times of the month, but more about that later.

Problems Getting Pregnant or Are You Being Misdiagnosed?

If you are having a problem getting pregnant, then having the full picture of what it takes to attain fertilisation is really important.

During ovulation, when the egg comes out of the ovarian wall it will normally be taken into the fallopian tube. The end of the fallopian tube, called the fimbria will grab the egg within seconds of its release and pull it properly inside the fallopian tube. If an egg remains unfertilised it can live for up to twenty four hours, and after dying it will be absorbed by the body or it will disintegrate and come out with the menses. To give you an idea of scale, each eggs is around the same size as this full stop.

When an ovum is fertilised, this usually takes place within a short time after ovulation occurs, and will actually be done in the fallopian tube. Fertilisiation does not take place in the uterus, contrary to the widely held misconception that it does. It can take even a couple of hours for the sperm to reach the egg in the fallopian tubes. Once an egg has been fertilised there are vibrating, tiny hairs called cilia which draw the egg back into the uterus. The fertilised ovum will reach its final destination and begin to burrow into the nutritious lining of the uterus after about one week of ‘travelling’ to reach there.

Increase The Odds Of Getting Pregnant With Natural Herbs Part 3

Herbal remedies can help to increase your fertility and we will further explore this in part three of our series. As you know, historically, natural methods have been used in order for women to get pregnant easier and faster. Wild yam, dried clover blossom, partridge berry, liferoot, wild carrot, and red clover were discussed, among other plants, during part one of our series on increasing fertility. We spoke about increasing your fertility through other types of plants and how to actually use them, during part two. Decreasing your fertility with certain herbs and plants will be discussed now, in part three.

An anti-fertility herb that is seen often is daucus carota, or wild carrot, which is also known as Queen Anne’s lace, often seen by the public growing on the sides of roads. Parsley, dill, cumin, celery, caraway and anise are cousins to this carrot, as well as another plant that was used by Greek and Roman girls as a method of birth control, though that is now extinct. If you want to prevent a fertilized egg from implanting, you would have to eat the sweet smelling seeds of the wild carrot, at least a large teaspoonful at a time. One study found that if you do this for over a year it is about 99% effective at preventing pregnancy. You can tell that preventing pregnancy in this manner is a perfect fit with the way that nature works because, on its own, the body allows a third of all fertilized eggs to pass through your body without having it implant in your uterus.
